With Arsenal’s Johan Djourou looking increasingly likely to be leaving the club now that the January transfer window is open, Bundesliga side Hannover have become the latest side to be interested in signing the centreback according to reports in both the Swiss and German media.
According to the Swiss site Blick, Hannover’s Martin Kind has said in regards to Djourou
Money is there. We are able to act.
It is reported that the club have €20m available from the Europa League which seems rather high. Regardless, despite the fact that Djourou is contracted to Arsenal until 2015 I’m pretty certain that the Germans won’t need to use all of their money to land him.
Djourou, who has been at Arsenal for eight years, has only made two appearances this season, falling down the pecking order behind Koscielny, Vermaelen and Mertesacker.
Should Arsenal decide to sell the player who they refused to let go in the summer when Napoli were interested in him then they would certainly be looking to reinforce in that position as Squillaci would be left as the only recognised centreback away from the first three unless the club turn to Ignasi Miquel.
Just a few days ago Hamburg were said to be interested in signing Djourou.
