The Daily Express have linked Arsenal with Mohammed Abdellaoue, a Norweigan striker playing for Bundesliga club Hannover.
The article also claims that we would face competition from Lazio for the Moroccan-born forward, who scored 16 goals in 42 games last season – hardly impressive stats.
I can’t claim to have seen Abdellaoue play, nor have I heard a great deal about him. However, this might suggest that he’s not a particularly special player. Apparently available for as little as £4million, with stats like that it’s easy to see why.
I imagine there might be some genuine interest from Lazio, and it’s obviously going to be more of a story over here if Arsenal’s name is thrown in as well. We are, after all, being linked with most strikers under the sun at the moment, so why not?
Hopefully it will turn out the links to the likes of Huntelaar and Llorente are the ones that come to pass, rather than this one. I can’t see Abdellaoue being anything more than a backup here. And right now we need someone more capable of challenging the current first choice attackers.
