Hannover hope to secure Arsenal centreback in next 48 hours

With Arsenal’s Swiss centreback looking increasingly likely to be leaving the club in the January transfer window it seems as if Germany will be his destination with Hannover confirming that they are indeed in talks with Arsenal and hope that something can be resolved within the next two days.

Speaking to the German paper Bild, Hannover’s president Martin Kind said

I am able to confirm that we are very interested in bringing Johan Djourou to the AWD-Arena. He is on our short-list of names and there have been some concrete talks with Arsenal going on.

We make no hasty decision. But within the next two days it is possible that something will happen.

Their general manager added

We do intend to loan the player first until the end of the season and we will make a decision on his future

Although under contract until 2015, Djourou has only featured twice for Arsenal this season. Arsenal turned down offers for the player in the summer with Wenger claiming that he loved Johan however it is unclear what has happened between then and now that would change Arsenal’s mind. Perhaps the player is pushing for a move as he can see that only injuries to the three centrebacks in front of him is going to let him get back in to the side and he would prefer to be playing rather than sitting on the bench and that is to be applauded if it is the case.

Hannover are clearly hedging their bets as well with a loan move first, making sure the player, should the move go ahead, be able to fit in to their team.

Nice if you can get it.
