Arsenal’s Johan Djourou is still very much a wanted man with Hamburg’s Sporting Director Oliver Kreuzer telling Bild that they are very much interested in taking the Swiss international back to Germany.
Kreuzer said
We would loan him. But we would also buy. Depending on what is better for Arsenal.
Djourou has also been linked with a return to Hannover where he spent part of last season on loan but Kreuzer believes Hamburg are the better team, adding
Hannover has made good games in recent years but Hamburg is Hamburg and Hannover Hannover. We are simply the better team.
Djourou’s wages are seen by many in Germany as a stumbling block to a permanent move.
Still under contract with Arsenal until 2015, Djourou is reported to earn €3m per year.
Speaking a few days ago, Djourou said of his future
I do not know what will happen. At Arsenal I still have a contract that gives me security.
The Swiss paper Blick reported at the time that Arsenal are reluctant to sell Djourou and are looking for another loan deal for the defender.
Djourou moved his wife and two girls to Hannover and is reportedly very happy there.
